Student Studio Recital

Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 2:00pm

Music 4 Living holds two student studio recitals a year for all voice & piano youth students (through high school) studying with Lori Gray Muligano.  The Spring 2011 Recital will be held at the Dole Mansion the same building where Lori teaches. The Dole Mansion is part of the Legacy Arts Park attached to the historic Dole Mansion. A short reception will be held after the recital.

The recital is expected to last about 2 hours with a brief intermission and will be followed by an informal reception.  On May 22nd, vocal students are expected to arrive at
12:45pm for warm-ups and piano only students arrive by 1:00pm before the recital.

FYI
- The doors to the Dole Mansion will be closed until 15 minutes before the recital start time so plan on dropping your student off one hour beforehand, knowing that seating will not be available until the doors open at 1:45pm on May 22nd .

All students will perform their songs by memory in front of an audience of family, friends & other students. (Students are expected to invite supportive friends and family to their recital.) Voice students will use a microphone.  Piano students will use the grand piano.  For some students, this will be their first public performance.  Dress for the recital is “Sunday Best”.

In preparation for this recital, Music 4 Living will be holding a dress rehearsal on the Sunday afternoon prior to the actual recital date.  The dress rehearsal will be on Sunday May 15th starting at
1:30pm for students and will run until approximately 5:00pm.  All students are expected to attend.  Students are encouraged to wear the shoes they will wear for the recital & bring homework or something to occupy their time when they are not rehearsing for the dress rehearsal.

There are many reasons for this dress rehearsal.  First, it offers students an opportunity to perform in the room that the recital is held in, in front of the other students.  It also gives students a chance to work with the equipment they will be using for the recital, including microphones (for vocal students) and the grand piano (for piano students).  For voice students, it gives students a chance to work with their accompanist (Carolyn) who will be there that afternoon.  It is good practice for voice students to get used to different accompanists, as they will find this situation very common in audition situations.  All songs performed at the dress rehearsal and recital will be performed by memory so each student must be off-book no later than May 1st.

There will be a recital fee for each student.  The fee helps cover the rental cost for the use of the space for the dress rehearsal & the actual recital. See Lori for details. Checks should be made out to Music 4 Living & payment is due no later than the dress rehearsal.

IMPORTANT
: Each student/family is asked to bring one dessert or appetizer (finger food item) on the day of the recital.  Music 4 Living will provide beverages and paper goods for the short, informal reception to follow the recital.  Any parent interested in helping out with the recital (decorations, room setup…), please let Lori know as soon as possible.   Volunteers will certainly be appreciated!
